Many educational institutions are facing and planning for temporary campus closures due to COVID-19. With this, schools that need to continue with their curriculum can conduct distance learning where teachers and students can remain productive and make valuable learning time despite not being in one physical classroom together.

Juliano C. Brosas Elementary School is providing distance learning tools, training, and resources to help them stay connected through Google Classroom.

Mark Airon P. Creus, school principal urges teachers to learn the new online platform for the preparation of the ‘New Normal’in education.

The “3-day School Webinar on Online Class Modality using Google Classroom’ conducted last May 20-22, is a call to enhance the skills of teachers in using online platforms in teaching, where teachers and learners will stay connected amidst the worldwide pandemic.

Mr. Creus discussed during the first day of webinar on how to create a class and invite students in the class created. He also shared how to post an announcement or question in the Stream that will serve as an avenue for the students to share insights and collaborate among them on the topic discussed or on the question given by the teacher.

On the second day, Mr. Creus demonstrated how to add a material whether a PowerPoint presentation, word document, a PDF file, or a YouTube link in Google Classroom through the Create button under Classwork. He showed how to schedule the accessibility of the materials added in the class and how to organize the materials by creating a topic.

On the last day, he explained how to create Online Quiz Using Google Forms. He indicated how one can get the responses or the results of the students who took the quiz in real time by creating a Google spreadsheet for their responses.

For a more engaging virtual class, teachers can ask students to join a discussion in Google Classroom (using the Stream) to share their thoughts on a certain topic. They can also use comments in Google Docs and Classroom to continue the two-way discussion.

We’re committed to support the learning of our students and local community during this challenging time. We hope that our distance learning tools like Google Classroom and Activity Sheets (soon to propose) will help the learners in the near opening of classes.”, Creus added.

On the other hand, the Department of Education continues to extend its assistance and support for Filipino learners and thinks of better ways to stay safe while learning.
