Isang mapagpalang araw sa ating lahat! It is not just an honor, but a privilege as well, to be given this opportunity to be a part of this very important day as students with distinctive educational attainment are given recognition by your school, and my alma mater, TUPC.
It is a nostalgic feeling to reminisce my experiences during my 4-year stay in this institution: ang pagkain ng goto sa canteen ng coop, ang paglalakad mula school hanggang Area 1 para makatipid ng pamasahe, ang pagkain ng lunch ng sabay sabay sa paras at buffalo, paggagawa namin ng drawing sa open amphitheatre, mga hindi malilimutang memories sa COED laboratory with our computer teachers. I was once a student like you, full of dreams and aspirations to finish my degree in this institution. These are the memories that I will never forget and will continue to share to other people.
At this juncture, I can see the happiness in the eyes of every student awardee, that after all the hardships; you will now reap the fruit of your hard work. Your full commitment to education gave you all the possibilities of receiving acknowledgment, recognition and even admiration from your school, your teachers, the administration, and also from your schoolmates. Many have come before you but now it is your moment to shine as you receive your medal and continue to live out the character of excellence and hard work. Today, it is proper to acknowledge all the people who have helped you achieve what you are today and who have always believed in who you will become. To your Teachers and my former teachers who equipped you with knowledge and skills – they who never failed to encourage and prepare you in becoming good and productive citizens of our land. My dear students, as much as this event holds a special meaning for you, the same feelings are shared by your parents. I can clearly see that this is one of your parents’ proudest moment – seeing their son and daughter receive the epitome of knowledge – their award. You are very blessed and fortunate that you have your parents with you at this memorable event; unlike other students and even graduates who did not experience this, including me. Students, I’d like to request to give your parents and your teachers a round of applause because they, too, have to be given a well-deserved congratulations! Sila ang mga totoong petmalu at lodi ng buhay natin sa ating paaralan at tahanan. With all of these, though, you should, at all times, be grateful and humble of all the blessings from our Lord Almighty. As a famous quote states, your acquired knowledge and skills may define your worthiness, but sharing them to others may define the extraordinary kind of person that you are. I know that this moment is especially for those who have shown excellence in both academic and non-academic performances. But this too is to acknowledge all students’ efforts as they went through school difficulties and failures, and life in general, but still, withstanding all the tests of time. Just like me, I did not receive any medals when I was in college here but that did not define who I will become in the future. In fact, after all these years, I am proud to say that I have successfully surpassed all the challenges I have encountered after leaving my alma mater. It is when I realized that we can always make our own medal of recognition in everything that we do. It may not always come in the form of a gold circle around our necks, but simply putting our best in every task that we accomplish, is an achievement in itself.
Success does not come overnight, and so is education. Education has always been a lifelong process. In today’s time, success cannot be measured only with the grades that you received and the medals that you acquire in school. But it can be measured on how competitive and prepared you are with the skills and competencies that you possess for you to compete in this very competitive world. We are now in an era of educational revolution. In adhering to the ASEAN Integration and Internationalization, there has been a major education reform in the education system of the country through the implementation of R.A. 10533 or the Enhanced Basic Education Act of 2013 and the revisions of the curriculum in the higher education. This move is a great start for us to be ready and well-equipped not only to the present needs of our country but also to the demand of other countries. With this reform, it will help the students and the future graduates in pursuing their journey towards internationalization and global competitiveness. And to attain this, kailangan natin ng tiyaga, determinasyon, lakas ng loob at pananalig sa Diyos upang matapos ang iyong nasimulan at magampanan ang inaatang at inaasahan sa atin.
The journey towards internationalization doesn’t start and end with knowing how to use the computers, navigate the net, nor owning different kinds of gadgets that come into the market. It is also doesn’t mean, na paramihan ng account sa facebook, Instagram, tweeter and other social networking sites. It also doesn’t mean that you have million likes, friends or followers. The journey towards internationalization begins with learning the basic skills and continuing until every one of us become lifelong learners who can easily adapt to a changing world. The end goal is to become at par with international standards by continuously improving our skills and keeping updated with the latest trend in information and technology.
Poverty is not and should never ever be a hindrance to success. Gasgas na ang linyang ito pagkat lagi na natin itong naririnig, nababasa at kinagisnang salita. But I am proud to say that this is true because I am one of those who dreamt and worked hard to finish my studies despite of poverty. Isa ako sa mga taong nangarap at natupad ang minimithing pangarap, to finish my studies and have a better life.
To all the students, give it your best and your all in everything you do. Work with perseverance, integrity and a sense of gratitude. Remember that those students who continuously acquire new and better forms of knowledge that they can apply to their lives will be the movers and shakers of our society in the future. As what Mahatma Gandhi said, “A man is a product of his thoughts, what he thinks he will become”. And to all the teachers, let us continue to give quality education as we teach their minds with knowledge and wisdom and touch their hearts with love and compassion. Let us give life’s lessons to our students, making them brave and confident to face the tough, but promising life ahead of them.
Allow me to finish my talk with my facebook status posted today, “What you are is God’s gift to you, what you become is your gift to God, to your parents and to yourself… #congratulationsTUPCians! #TUPCianAKO
Thank you very much and isang Magandang buhay sa ating lahat!
